Kyler turned the big 12 today! It's the last of the pre-teen years ( I hear that the teenage years are much more fun). The bad part about today was that Kyler had the flu all day and had to miss his first baseball game of the year. He didn't even eat any of that yummy cake. Oh well, Happy Birthday Kyler!!!

It must be true because my mommy said so. She doesn't lie when it comes to me! So this is what I do with most of my time lately.....crawl around on the floor, play with my toys, pull my puppy's hair....you know, the fun stuff.

I know strings are bad but my mommy pays very close attention to me when I play with this toy. She wouldn't want me to choke.

I am trying so hard to walk! It is fun because I grab daddy's hands and make him follow me EVERYWHERE! We usually stroll around the house for about 2 straight hours every night once daddy gets off work.

I think I might try to go around the house on my own really soon. Too bad mommy won't let me quite yet, she has yet to find a gate big enough to block me from the stairs.

It was my first one and boy was it exciting! We got to eat a lot of food, watch tv, and hang out with the whole family at Papa Mike's and Grandma Mary's house. I never realized how many people I have in my family until they all gather in one room together!!! It rained almost all day then all of the sudden they announced that the Easter Bunny came and the weather suddenly got clear. We went outside to hunt for eggs. I got to be the first one to go because I was the youngest. Daddy took me out while mommy held the camera (like always)! Check me out.

So out of all of my stuffed animals.....my monkey is by far my favorite one of all. He is fun to roll to, then tackle and bite. After I'm done playing around...I like to just chill on him. He's pretty comfy.

Man, I am getting so close to crawling. I can roll from one end of the living room to the other. One of these days I'm going to actually lift up my body and crawl. I went to the doctors office today for a follow up to my breathing and for another flu shot. Dr. Lee says my breathing is improving and that we only have to do one treatment a day now or as needed. I took the flu shot like a man. I only teared up for a minute. I weigh 21 pounds now...I don't think I'm gaining as much weight now because I am on the move!!!

Look at those eyelashes! My mommy is going to have to keep the ladies away from me.

So tonight Daddy and Ashley went to a daddy/daughter dance. They had a lot of fun. They got to dance, eat lots of cake and drink red punch. Mommy and I snuck in at the end of the dance. It was very funny to see about 400-500 white men dancing in one room all at the same time!!! Here are their pics. It was really cute because they matched.....

Can you believe it....we are at the halfway mark! I went to the doctor today and for the most part the check-up went really well.

My head is in the 97-100% mark.
My weight is 20 lbs 11 oz which is the 95%
My length is 27.5 inches which is the 75%

Basically, I am HUGE! We got the okay to start using a sippy cup with water in it at feedings (which I loved tonight). Dr. Lee says I am just a really happy baby. I can sit up for 5+ minutes at a time. I can roll over (but I'm really lazy about it). I love to play and notices everything going on all the time. I can even hold my own bottle too (again I'm very lazy about it though).

The one problem area mommy and daddy still have is my lungs. I wheeze a lot and gasp a lot. We are all leary of asthma. So Dr. Lee is prescribing that we do 2 breathing treatments a day with a preventive medicine. We will have to go back in a month and see if it has worked. She thinks I should hopefully grow out of it but in the meantime she would like to treat it....which I agree with.

Did I mention that I'm eating oatmeal in the mornings and a whole jar of veggies at night? Squash is my favorite! For fruits, I love bananas!

So, tonight Devin, Kyler and Ashley got to go to all-night skate while Mommy, Daddy and I went to the Olive Garden. I slept through most of it but I hear it was good. Afterwards, we went to my very first movie at the theater. I got to see P.S. I Love You. It was really neat. I've never seen a tv that big before...maybe mommy and daddy will buy one for the house...hmmmmmm.....

Anyways, Happy New Year! We were in the theater at midnight and I was wide awake. I hope everyone had a fun and safe night too.

Yep, you read it, I got two teeth for Christmas! They are the two bottom ones. They really hurt when they were coming in but now I'm doing better. I think it's really funny to see mom's face when I bite her!

Papa, Grandma, Kiki and Jared came over today. Oh yeah, Uncle Steve too. He helped me open up my new gifts. Guess what? It snowed today! I had a white Christmas the very first year of my life! Pretty exciting huh?!?

I went to the mall with Mommy and Daddy today to do some Christmas shopping. Well I was being so good that they took me to meet Santa! He was a lot of fun to play with. I really liked his fuzzy coat, it was really soft. I also liked pulling his beard (I wanted to make sure he was the real Santa). Anyways, I was so cute that Mommy and Daddy bought my photo.

At my doctors appointment yesterday I got all of my measurements done. Guess what....I weigh 17.2lbs and I am 25 3/4 inches tall now! I am almost off the charts. No wonder mommy and daddy say their backs hurt from carrying me!

I wasn't able to get my shots though because of my cold. I might get them next week instead.

I'm still sick

Yep, you read it right.....still sick. It's been almost 3 weeks now but don't worry because mommy and daddy took me to the doctor again today. This is trip #3 for this cold. Dr. Lee said it's in my chest now so I have to have a nebulizer and abuteral to fix it. I don't have to wear the mask though, just have it close enough for me to inhale my medicine. They gave me two masks and one looks like a fish face. Mommy didn't open that one yet. She just used the plain one the doctor gave us. I have to do my medicine every 3 hours and go back to see Dr. Lee next week.

Halloween!

It was my first Halloween and boy was it fun! I got to go trick-or-treating with Kyler, Ashley, Chase, DJ, Damon, Sandi, Danny, Daddy and Mommy. I didn't stay out too long though because it was kinda cold and I am still getting over my cold. Today I took cupcakes to Kyler's and Ashley's classrooms. I got to stick around in Ashley's class and join the school parade. My mommy and daddy told me that I got lots of compliments on my outfit...I don't know though because I slept through it all. I ended up wearing my penguin costume all day because it was so snuggly and warm. It was too hard for mommy and daddy to put me in my carseat in my dinosaur outfit because the tail was too big. Kyler was a girl (and he sure looked like one) Ashley was a "Major Flirt".

My how times flies! I am 3 months old now and as big as a moose (at least that's what my mommy says). I went to the doctors today because I am not feeling that well. I found out that I weigh 15.15 pounds now!!! I've doubled my weight since birth. Do you think that's why mommy says her back hurts all the time now? Oh yeah, I also am measuring about 24 inches long. Since I wasn't feeling well...I didn't really want my picture taken. Here are a couple of new ones, sorry I'm not smiling that much.

Well, tonight my mommy and daddy got to go to a concert while I stayed home with my babysitters Lauren and Steve. It was mommy and daddy's first date night since I was born. I had a blast with them! My parents sure had a blast too. They got to meet Pat Monahan (who is the lead singer of Train) because my mommy did the promotions for the concert. Her reward was backstage passes.

Well I had a doctors appointment today. I was having lots of fun being weighed and measured. Can you believe I weigh 13.2 lbs now and I'm 23 inches long?!? Such a big jump from when I was born 2 months ago...back then I was only 7.15 lbs and 19.6 inches.
The nurse was so nice until she decided to give me 2 shots in one leg and one more shot in the other. OUCH! I cried for a few minutes until my mommy gave me a bottle....delicious. Well that's it for now. Talk to you soon.

Well the doctors finally let me start eating out of a bottle yesterday. Good thing too because I was starving! I've been fed through an IV for the past 3 days and now it's time to get the real stuff. My mommy and daddy decided to film me eating today....enjoy!

See the tubes on my face...they were my oxygen tubes that assisted my breathing. They were feeding me 100% oxygen to help get rid of my pnuemothorax. At least I don't have to wear my helmet anymore.

Well after 37 weeks in my mom's nice, warm belly...I have arrived. Here is my mommy's version of the events that happened.

On July 14, 2007, I went to work like always at 3:30am. I was having contractions very sporadically, like always, and didn't even time them. My pubic bone had been hurting for about the past 24 hours and I kept complaining that it felt like it was going to break. At about 2:30 pm we were packing our house up to move the next day when the contractions started to get more consistent. At 3:30pm we went to Applebee's for lunch. As I sat there eating, the contractions started to get really strong and were 2 minutes apart. At one point, they actually brought tears to my eyes. So we left Applebee's at 4:30pm and headed straight home.

My husband, Erik, kept insisting that I call the doctor but I told him I wanted to go home and make sure that they were real contractions. I drank a large glass of water and lay on my left side for about two hours (I napped a little too because the contractions didn't hurt as much when I was lying down). When I got up at 6:30pm, the contractions were more bearable and were 3-4 minutes apart. I finally called the hospital and told them what was going on. They, of course, told me to come in. So we packed a bag and headed towards the hospital a while later. I finally arrived at the hospital a little after 8pm. The nurse hooked me up to the monitors and sure enough strong contractions that were 3 minutes apart. She checked to see if I was dilated and I was barely a fingertip (which is good because I was breech and only 37 weeks along). The doctor was reluctant to say I was in labor and wanted me to do a dose of tributalin. Well that stuff made me so shaky that I looked like I was having seizures. After another half an hour passed, the nurse checked me again and I was a full fingertip dilated. The contractions also never stopped as a result of the tribulalin, they just spread out to 4-5 minutes apart. Since they didn't stop, the doctor ordered another round of tributalin…..uggghhhh!

Finally, at 11pm the doctor came into my room. He said to me, "So, I hear you want to have a birthday today?" I replied, "Yes." He then said, "Well can I make it tomorrow because I can't get you into the O.R. until after midnight." He had to deliver a set of twins via c-section first. Being that I was only 37 weeks along and still breech, they didn't want me to dilate too much more and wanted to proceed with the c-section. At around 1am, I got up and walked myself down to the O.R. with the nurse and my husband. I received a spinal for the operation which didn't agree with me and I had quite a bit of vomiting on the table. After being cleared to go ahead, the surgery began. At 1:38am, Bryce was born. He was 7 lbs. 15 oz and was 19.6 inches long. He was just perfect. They showed him to me over the drape then brought him to me after he was wrapped up for a quick kiss and picture. They took him straight to the nursery for further examination. Oh yeah, he scored an 8 on the first APGAR, then a 9 one the next one. For the next 12 hours I suffered from extreme nausea due to the pain meds they were giving me. For anyone who has had a c-section....it is horrible to feel that you have been cut in half then to heave on top of it. The doctor actually thinks that I strained my stomache muscles severely and I am still trying to recover from it almost 2 weeks later. I would also like to add, from a person who has done both a vaginal birth and a c-section....I really believe that a vaginal birth is much easier to recover from. The only pain I really felt from a vaginal birth was when I had to pee. It was a reminder that I had pain "down there", but it was still bearable. Since having a c-section, I have to double over to cough, sneeze or even laugh. I am still sore almost two weeks later.

The Hospital Stay

Now back to the birth...after Bryce was examined, they determined that he was breathing too fast and that he had fluid in his lungs (which is common with c-section babies). They kept him in the nursery for further observation and because I wasn't able to have him in my room yet because of the recovery. When I finally woke up later that morning, the pediatrician came in to tell me more about Bryce's breathing. They did a chest x-ray on him and confirmed that he had fluid in his lungs. At that time, they also discovered a pneumothorax. It is an air pocket that developed on the lung after birth. They happen very quickly and sporadically. The doctor told me that they were going to have to put Bryce on oxygen for the pneumothorax and antibiotics for the fluid in the lung (to prevent pneumonia). I was able to be wheeled into see Bryce and hold him before they proceeded with the oxygen hood. He was under the oxygen hood until Wednesday. He was still going to receive oxygen but this time it was just through his nose prongs. He was cleared for the fluid and continued to improve from then on. I was finally able to hold him again on Wednesday and we were cleared to finally start feeding him. Before then, he was fed with the IV in his hand. I was released from the hospital on that day too. I became known as a boarder. A boarder is someone who is able to stay at the hospital for free in a room so that they can still be close to their baby. They gave us food gift cards for the cafeteria and room service. It was nice to be able to still be so close to Bryce even if he couldn't be in my room. We went to the nursery every 2 hours to be with him and fed him every 3 hours. The nurses were shocked that we even went in for the late night feedings. They began finally weaning Bryce off the oxygen on Thursday. He did really great with it. On Saturday night, the nurses did a lot of prep for Bryce to be released which included being put in his car seat and monitored to see that his breathing was still under control. It was a major step towards being released. On Sunday, we finally got the okay to go home! Bryce was released at 5pm. I have to say that it was really bittersweet. The nurses really became a huge part of our life and family while we were at the hospital. We received so many gifts from them. One nurse gave Bryce his own Josh Groban cd that she played for him everyday while he was there. She believed that it really helped his healing process because he began to improve after she started to play the cd. We received hand crafted quilts, a teddy bear and even a matching hat, blanket, mittens and booties set. I can't say enough about these fabulous ladies…they really made our stay so much more bearable. I would also like to remind everyone that their local nursery really could use more clothes in preemie and newborn sizes. They love donations! Anyways, that's about it. We are finally home and doing great. Bryce is really a mellow fellow and hardly ever cries. The only time he attempts to cry is diaper changing time or clothes changing time…he really doesn't like to be naked.
